The 4th of July weekend brings some big events to Gilbert this weekend.
There is the Gilbert Old Fashioned 4th of July Fireworks at the Ballpark. Held at Big League Dreams (4536 E. Elliot Rd.) This event starts at 6:00 p.m. for some fun activities, food and games with the Fireworks Show beginning at dark.
Then, on July 5th, there is the Gilbert 90th Birthday Party at Gilbert Rodeo Park (1777 S. Val Vista Dr.) This event runs from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and is free. There will be booths with games and races in the arena: Big Game Rescue – Bean Bag Toss – Arts and Crafts – Grocery Race – Shoe Race – Tin Can Alley – Horseshoes – Petting Zoo – Sack Race – Photo Booth – Roping – Face Painting – Scavenger Hunt – 3 Legged Race – Wheelbarrow Race – Bounce House – Calf Scramble – Greased Pig Race. This will be great fun for young and old alike. The Park’s Cook-Shack will be open to provide simple breakfast items for purchase and FREE birthday cake and ice cream! It is requested that you bring a non-perishable food “Birthday Gift” to be donated to a local food bank.
On Tuesday, July 6th, we have Gilbert’s 90th Birthday Party at the Gilbert Town Hall (50 E. Civic Center Dr.). From 7 to 8:30 p.m. you will have and Experience to Remember! Experiences and activities include: A Tribute to Gilbert in Song – Historical Memories – Meet the Govenor – Cowboy Poetry – Meet Gilbert residents who are also turning 90 years old – See Former Town Leaders – Refreshments. Bobby would want you to be there! (The Town of Gilbert is named for William (Bobby) Gilbert. In 1902 he encouraged economic development of the area by providing land to the Arizona Eastern Railway to connect Phoenix and Florence by rail).
